MCF Website Development
Helping a non-profit build a complex, functional website
Maine Cancer Foundation is a unique non-profit that invests in Maine-based cancer research, education and support services. Its fundraising mechanisms are primarily very large, signature public events including Mary's Walk and the Tri For A Cure Triathlon.
The prior website had an outdated, custom CMS and a wobbly database interface that consistently crashed causing data loss. The complexity of the organization meant that the website needed to combine overarching branding with event branding and a CMS that permitted easy updating by staff.
Maine Cancer, above all, needed a collaborative partner. The site development had a relatively short window between the last major event in late summer and the end of the year when the next event would begin to ramp up marketing activity.
Rinck worked closely with the MCf Marketing and Communications Manager to carefully identify the needs, map and wireframe the proposed site structure. The Rinck digital team then developed a Drupal-based site platform with permission-based updating structure.
This complex site structure allowed MCf staff to easily update specific sections of the site content while limiting full site access. It allowed higher-level users to "update once, deploy everywhere" for more universal content.
The launch of the new website was described by the marketing director as "flawless" and immediately reduced staff time (and annoyance) for providing crucial and timely site updates during critical fundraising periods. The improved SEO meant that MCf not only did not lose rankings but improved.
