NAMI Maine Walk

Promoting a major event to help fund Mental Health Services

CLIENT NEED

NAMI Maine coordinates many aspects of providing Mental Health Services in Maine. NAMI Maine's major fundraiser of the year is the NAMI Walks.

NAMI came to Rinck to request assistance with helping promote the event. After hearing more about the critical need for mental health services in Maine, the lack of any marketing assistance from other marketing firms and after reviewing existing promotional and marketing materials, Rinck offered a major, one-year pro-bono investment.

The Walk is a major fundraiser for NAMI Maine. In addition, it serves to highlight the organization's work on behalf of the mentally ill. The Walk itself is very low-key. Historically, between 50-75 people completed the walk with some spectators. Although pre-registration is encouraged, "day of" registrations are also encouraged. 

THE SOLUTION

The walk was to occur in 6 weeks. The Rinck team embraced the project and helped develop:

  • A media partnership with a local TV station
  • A media partnership with a local radio station
  • Posters and collateral materials

The Walk with Us campaign came from the concept of walking a mile in someone’s shoes. The idea was to achieve a commitment to simply be present and to gain empathy and understanding.

THE RESULT

Pre-registration leading up to the Walk gave some indication of increased numbers. Estimates from the day suggest that 180-200 people participated and many additional people came to cheer.
