Recently, things got really magical at Rinck. The elves on the Morale Committee set up a Giving Tree in our lobby and filled the branches with tags for two local organizations: The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society and The Androscoggin Chamber’s and YPLAA Kids for the Holidays Drive. Dog food, kitten toys, paper towels, unwrapped toys, new clothes, dish soap – the requests were simple.
Within minutes of the tags being hung, they were gone – taken in twos and threes by Rincksters wanting to give back. So the elves filled the tree again. Quickly the tags vanished. Rather than replenishing the tags once more, the team posted a list of items that could be purchased as well.
Starting the next day, the tree began to fill up with toys, crafts and bulk packages of household cleaning supplies and pet requests. The next day, the same thing happened. More presents left under the tree and more interest from others on how they could help. Soon, the tree seemed almost too small to hold everything, but the elves were sent out to buy even more toys. It nearly blocked the hallway!
At the same time, in a city far away, a young girl had lost her family to a house fire. We knew we had to help by filling her simple request for Christmas cards. We collected an entire basket addressed from Rincksters and families and sent them off to Buffalo.
As the cards were mailed and the presents picked up, there was an awesome feeling in the halls of Rinck. We were starting to feel that thing we read so much about – the research is right; it IS better to give than to receive! Our hearts grew so many sizes throughout this season, we hope that you too got the chance to give back!

You can buy happiness…just not in the way you think. Spending money helping others will fill your cup way more than a $5 latte.
